Meet the artists behind Autumn Paradox who made it the incredible, collaborative, and cozy event that it was!
Artist Spotlight 1: Gnarls McFarls
Gnarls hosted an open printmaking station at Autumn Paradox. Visitors carved unique tessellating designs, then printed their designs onto flat items and light clothing.
Gnarls McFarls, aka Andy Pankakes when he performs music, enjoys doing relief printing in his spare time. He is especially drawn to create stamps that form interwoven contiguous patterns using bright contrasting colors. He also likes making cute animals sometimes.
Artist Spotlight 2: Sam Stanger
Sam hosted a communal crochet project at our event! Sam brought goods to sell, and provided hooks and yarn for people of all experience levels to contribute to the project.
Artist Spotlight 3: Avi David Sinai
Avi ran the "Hello, draw me" station, where people came to get their likeness made into a unique work of art!
If you'd like a live caricature/drawing done of you (and maybe some friends!) in the unique and unmistakeable style of Avi Sinai, be sure to come back to more of our events!
Avi makes artworks, sells 3d art cards and prints. For more information, visit https://avidavidsinai.wixsite.com/artbombs
Artist Spotlight 4: Lumiere Alchemical (Nelson Basden and Jeddy Grant)
Nelson Basden and Jeddy Grant, through the use of over head projectors, oils and dye, crafted an organic liquid light show for the audience to get lost in. This old school method is a blast from the past, preserved by few. We loved the fluidity and flow of their Autumn Paradox performance.
Artist Spotlight 5: Georgia
Georgia shared a collaborative natural pigment live painting station at Autumn Paradox!
"I create paints out of natural, found pigments! Come try my paints and connect with the colors of the land!"
Artist Spotlight 6: Ecosensuals
Liv of Ecosensuals Apothecary collaborated with the Fairy Cloud Tent to bring some herbal healing on Saturday!
"Ecosensuals is a traveling herbal apothecary. We serve tea, kombucha, elixirs, all concocted with the herbs of your wildest dreams."
Artist Spotlight 7: Gabriella Gangitano
The Fairy Cloud Tent and Ecosensuals Apothecary collaborated to create a space for relaxation, introspection and healing.
"Gabrielle has been building experiences through theatre, music, and is now harnessing the power of immersive installations to bring atmospheric chill space to events like the Santa Cruz regional burning man (UnScruz), and Airpusher's SF burning man fundraiser."
Artist Spotlight 8: Rachel Corvese
Rachel Corvese ran a community canvas, weaving everyone’s unique contributions with color together into one unique creation. Her station was part of a collaboration with the Vision Sanctuary, a new visionary art gallery and classroom in Santa Cruz! Many thanks to both Rachel and the Vision Sanctuary.
Artist Spotlight 9: Kiara
Kiara did body/face painting and ran a polymer clay station at Autumn Paradox. Visitors at the station made succulents, jack-o-lanterns, and more fall-themed creations.
Artist Spotlight 10: Oskar and Weston
Oskar and Weston returned with their real-time, music reactive fractal slime mold 'mirror' projection. They invited visitors to come see yourself as a network of biological organisms!
Shortly after Autumn Paradox, Oskar and Weston hopped on a flight to perform at the worldwide IEEE VISAP conference with this exact installation.
Artist Spotlight 11: Old Collage Try
Old Collage Try led a collaborative collaging station at Autumn Paradox. Visitors made new worlds out of found imagery and text! Some even brought their own new/old magazines to donate and snip up.
Old Collage Try is an analog collage artist whose work reflects the retro nostalgia of the 70's and 80's through surreal landscapes. All original collage artwork is handmade, non-digital, and created from rare & vintage materials that have been collected over the years from all along California. Items are made with love in Santa Cruz.
Artist Spotlight 12: Emily Love
Emily did live collaborative painting and watercolor on autumn-themed found objects.
Emily Love is a painter/photographer/fiber artist interested in all things nature. She creates art to form a deeper understanding of the patterns, chaos, uniformity, and unpredictability of the natural world.
Artist Spotlight 13 - Zack Kearsley
Zach Kearsley came out to Autumn Paradox to showcase different elements of turntablism and experimental percussion. He also floated around the venue offering polaroid photography to capture the beautiful intersection of space and time.
Artist Spotlight 14 - Embodied Vision Designs
Designer and creator Savanna vended her unique handmade clothing, made with love, chains, and velvet.
Artist Spotlight 15 - Ketracell
Ketracell did a live improvised hardware electronic set at Autumn Paradox.
"Ketracell is the brainchild of Kyle Madrigal. A music project that is formless, like water. Dynamic and flowing, rising and falling, like the tides. Let his improvised music wash over you and cleanse your spirit. Be baptized by the beats and shake your silly skin suit."
Artist Spotlight 16 - TAPES
Santa Cruz local indie synth pop artist TAPES guided us dreamily with his sometimes melancholic, sometimes euphoric grooves.
Artist Spotlight 17 - Baalti
Baalti, an electronic music duo, played an incredible experimental live set based around live sampling at Autumn Paradox. They went deep into their sample libraries and pulled out some percussion heavy bits for this one.
