An alien landscape locals have dubbed 'Crystal Note Grove' allegedly appeared in downtown Santa Cruz for 4 nights before vanishing without a trace. Scientists are theorizing it was a metaphysical anomaly, but government agencies are denying its existence. Did you see it?
Enter the world of Crystal Note Grove! We created an immersive crystalline biome located in the Museum of Art & History right in the heart of Downtown Santa Cruz, as part of the museum's Frequency Festival. For the past three months Liminal Space Art Collective wove magic with 70 amazing volunteers, using DIY ingenuity and recycled materials from the Circle Church and past projects. Thousands of attendees added their notes to the tree, expressing gratitude, wishes, and whimsy.
A large scale immersive build like this was a first for Liminal Space, and it won't be the last. We can't wait to expand our interactive universe for you to explore and embody.

Big thanks to Amotion Video for making the awesome mini-documentary that was on display the whole weekend!
The Crystal Note Grove was brought to life in collaboration with Idea Fab Labs, UCSC Computational Media Department, and UCSC Trading Post. Special thanks to the Santa Cruz Museum of Art & History for believing in us and providing local artists this incredible opportunity.
Stay tuned for a documentary about the making of & the artists behind this project!
